Words From Loneliness

You
don’t need me like I
want
you to need me.

And that’s fine.

You
need me
like you want
to need me.

And that’s fine.

I ache without
your presence.
You
seem content
without me.

I wish
I had
the power that you do
to detach from me so that
things can be less
hollow.  But I can’t
do that, no matter
how hard
I
try.

I
have no want
to seem
needy
or, worse yet,
clingy.
Yet
I cannot help but drag
a few lonely words out
of my mouth
while I’m trying to sleep
and you’re not around.
